security guard interview questions and answers
Security Guard Interview Question: You are substituting as a night dispatcher in the emergency response center for a security company who has multiple accounts. You get a call from a tenant from one of your client's small apartment community and the caller says that her baby is not breathing and not responding. Just when you hung up the phone, you get another call from a client in whose liquor store an armed robbery is in progress. Both premises are very near to your location, and you know that your guards can reach there faster than the police or a hospital ambulance. What would be your course of action in this scenario? The answer may seem obvious, but how do you detail your plan of action is the most important aspect of answering this question. Please comment your answers below. Before you attend your job interview as a Security Guard or Security Officer please make sure you are prepared using the following guidelines : First and foremost, "Dress Up": Some may not consider the job of a Security Officer as a glamorous job. However during the interview, it is always a great idea to dress appropriately. During my long years of interviewing and hiring security guards, a lot of men/women will show up for the interview casually dressed. For me this is a huge red flag. The reason is, the interview is a formal event. You should demonstrate the impression that you are coming prepared for the interview. When I see you coming for the interview in casual clothing, I may not tell you anything, but in my mind I will undervalue your ability to perform your job. You see, a security officer is considered as an authority figure. So I expect you to be dressed sharply.…
This is a real-life interview question. This happened in Dewey, Oklahoma. On February 6th, 2016 an independent youth league hosted a basketball game between Dewey and Skiatook. During the game, two boys began playing rough. As per the police report, one boy punched the other in the head, knocking him to the floor. During the commotion that followed, the stepfather of the boy that got hit ran at the coach and punched him in the throat. The two men's wives also got into the action, as per the police. The coach's wife is accused of going after the man who punched him, while that man's wife reportedly grabbed her hair. Now, as a Security Officer in this scene, what would you do? Possible Answer: As a security guard, my job is to protect people and property. After that I need to observe and report. Since a student was hurt and knocked down, I will immediately call for…
Security Guard Interview Question: You are a security Guard working in a shopping mall. During a busy shopping time, you saw two customers fighting on the floor. What would you do in this situation? First of all, I will review the situation, trying to determine what is happening. I will quickly assess if this is a simple random fight between two customers or if it is something gang related. This may be evident if there are supporters or onlookers supporting the fighters as well as from the behavior of the fighters. Before getting involved, I will call for backup/police. After calling for backup, if it was assessed to be a random fight, I will try to break up the fight using the following techniques: First, I will try to get their attention. This includes ordering them loudly in a strong voice or clapping hands. I will tell them with authority that they must stop doing what they're…
Security Officer Interview Question: You are hired to lead the security for an event where 250 people are attending. How many Security Guards you would like to enlist as part of your team and why? This again is another trick question. You shouldn't answer this question with a perfect number, without gathering a lot more information about this event. The way you analyze the problem is more important and that will indicate your depth of experience and involvement in the security industry. The following will be a good approach to answer this type of question. There is no single "standard" for Security Guard crowd ratio purely based on the number of people attending. A single number without considering the nature of the people attending and the nature of the event would not make much sense because crowds and events are very different in terms of their potential for disorder. The number of Security Guards needed will depend…
Alternate Question: You are an armed security guard, licensed to carry a gun. During your duty, you found a masked intruder inside the property you are protecting. How do you use your gun in this situation? Possible Answer: As a Security Guard, my primary duty is to protect people and then property in that order. A Security Guard do not have the same authority to use a firearm as a police officer. So unless the intruder poses a direct threat to my life or the life of another innocent individual I will not draw my fire arm. The use of deadly force to protect property or prevent property loss is illegal in most states in the US. If the intruder is not armed, depending on my assessment of the situation (intruder's demeanor, location of the incident, time of day, availability of other people to support me etc), I may decide to confront and restrain the individual to…

Alternate Question: What would you do if you caught an officer sleeping on the job? This question is asked to measure your ability to be a team-player. Possible Answer 1:I would try and warn the employee not to break the company policy. If repeated warnings are not helping, I have no choice but to report them. I know that others might think of me as a snitch, but to me honesty and integrity are more important that being thought of as ‘nice’. Possible Answer 2:If someone was caught sleeping on the job, if there were extenuating circumstances, like a sick child at home or something, I would talk to them and cut them some slack. After all, we are all human and all of need some sort of extra help from time to time. But if it happens regularly, I will definitely report it to the management, as, in my book, that is slacking on the job…
