What is the average annual salary for Security Guard or Security Officer?

That is a very good question. According to the US Government Agency – Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) the average annual salary of a security guard is $27,000 for the year 2013. Considering that the security guard job requires minimal training (many states require them to take only 8 hours of training, security guard salary per hour is considerably higher ($13.24) than many unskilled jobs.

The annual salary of a Security Guard can vary considerably based on several factors including, location, industry, company size, nature of the job, years of experience and education and training of the security guard. For example armed security guards often will be paid higher than unarmed security guards. Bank security guards often are paid more than the average wage since majority of them come under the category of armed security guards.

Surprisingly the state of Hawaii pays the lowest with $13,000 and $15,000
