In the state of Oregon, unarmed security guards are required to have a license. As required by the state, applicants must obtain a license before they are allowed to work as an unarmed security officer. First, they must meet the basic qualifications in order to become a potential candidate as an unarmed guard.

 

The following are the basic requirements needed: 

• Must be at least 18 years old.  
• Must have a high school diploma or any equivalent such as GED.  
• Must be a United States citizen or a registered resident alien and must have a proof of his/her citizenship.  
• Must have a driver’s license in the state of Oregon.  
• Must be submitted to a background check and must pass it.  
• Must submit a fingerprint affidavit and at least one fingerprint card.  
• Must have good communication skills.  
• Must be of good moral character.  
• Must have no felony convictions such murder, rape or aggravated assault. Applicants with such criminal history will not be granted license.  
• Must be in good physical condition.  
• Must have no drug or alcohol dependence.  
• Must not suffer from any psychological disorder that could hinder his performance as a security guard.  
• Must have a temporary work permit.  
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time. 

 

Unarmed security guards in the state of Oregon are required to complete a security guard training program approved by the Board of Public Safety Standards and Training. Applicants must complete the 8 hour classroom instruction course. An assessment exam of at least 4 hours is given by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training instructor. Candidates must also undergo 12 hours of training prior to certification and must be signed by a certified trainer. They are expected to pass the written exam and must have at least 80 percent score in order to become a possible candidate as an unarmed security officer. Tests cover all the materials included in the training.
