Unarmed security guards in the state of Oregon are required to complete a security guard training program approved by the Board of Public Safety Standards and Training. Applicants must complete the 8 hour classroom instruction course. An assessment exam of at least 4 hours is given by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training instructor. Candidates must also undergo 12 hours of training prior to certification and must be signed by a certified trainer. They are expected to pass the written exam and must have at least 80 percent score in order to become a possible candidate as an unarmed security officer.
